The imperative for UG Research-Based Learning in the Age of Generative AI

The 3rd Colloquium Series by the
Australasian Council of Undergraduate Research

In partnership with the University of Western Australia,

Community of Practice on Embedding Research into Curriculum

This online panel discussion will explore the importance and relevance of
integrating research into teaching as a whole of curriculum pedagogical approach universities can utilise to respond to the impact of generative artificial intelligence in higher education.

Our three speakers will outline how research-based learning (RBL) can support and assure university students are actively engaged in their own learning; from a theoretical, curriculum design and student experience perspective.

EMERITUS PROFESSOR ANGELA BREW
Macquarie University

Angela Brew is recognised as one of the foremost researchers and scholars on the inter-relationship between research and teaching gained through her lead role as an Australian Learning and Teaching National Senior Teaching Fellow, and senior positions at the University of Sydney and later Macquarie University where she led undergraduate research initiatives. Professor Brew established and has been Chair of ACUR since its establishment in 2013. 


PROFESSOR PAULINE ROSS 
The University of Sydney

Pauline Ross is Director of Academic Leadership and
Innovation and previous Associate Dean (Education) and Deputy Head of School at the University of Sydney and Professor of Marine Ecology and Higher Education. As a National Teaching Fellow of the Office for Learning and Teaching she has explored the evolution and
resilience of academic roles and is currently undertaking
curriculum transformations to ensure the academic
integrity of student learning.


SARA WARDAK
The University of Sydney

Sara Wardak, is the current Head of the ACUR Student Committee, established by students to support the value of undergraduate research experiences.  Sara will provide a personal account of the value of engagement in research to her learning and an overview of the beneficial legacy of the 12 years of the National Undergraduate Research 
Conference hosted by ACUR.
